Erik Ratcliffe has been a Linux enthusiast since 1991 (starting with Linux kernel version 0.11). After playing with Linux as a hobby for five years, in 1996 he decided to leave his 12-year career in civil engineering to pursue a new career working with Linux at Caldera, Inc. He now works with Allan Smart in the Caldera Systems Education Services department; his current responsibilities include doing research and development for courseware and helping to pioneer the Linux certification effort. He is also studying computer science at Utah Valley State College. Tim Bird has been working with Linux since 1993. He left Novell in 1995 to join Caldera, Inc., where he has been employed on various Linux programming projects. He has previously published articles in the NetWare Technical Journal. Tim received his master's degree in computer science from Brigham Young University in 1991. He currently works for Caldera Thin Clients, Inc. He and his wife and three children live in Orem, Utah. David Bandel earned a master of aviation management from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in 1989 at Ft. Campbell, KY. He retired from 20 years in the Army in February 1996. While on active duty, he learned many of the basics of UNIX working on DEC 5000s running Ultrix and Sun SparcStations running SunOS 4.
